Vault of Archavon: Beginner's Guide to Raiding: 10 Man

:: Vault of Archavon ::

Basic Information:
To be able to start this raid your faction should be in control of Wintergrasp. You do not want to start it (with a pick-up group) within half an hour before the battle for Wintergrasp begins since it may reset on you during the fight. Having at least one Shaman to Bloodlust (or Heroism) can be a great help, and a competent druid for battle-resurrection are always a great help, but if you have the choice of DPS always take whoever you think will be able to deal the most damage.

There are two bosses in this raid you will have to kill, both of them have enrage timers if you do not finish them off quick enough. Emalon is the harder of the two bosses who drops better gear, Archavon is the easy boss. Once you understand this fight it becomes incredibly easy, if you are able to pull at least 2000 damage per second. I believe that Emalon has a six minute enrage timer and Archavon has one that comes at five minutes. Most people will not want to do this raid with you if you intend to kill Archavon before Emalon, because they will not want to be saved to one boss.

Battle 1: Emalon and Friends
Emalon starts off with four adds in this fight, so you will need one tank on Emalon and one tank focusing on all the adds. One tank should take his/her target to the west side while the other takes his/her target to the east side. Ranged DPS and healers should be spread apart (easy on 10 man), if you use the DBM add-on you can use the command /range 10. Emalon has the following abilities that you will need to watch out for: Lightning Nova, Chain Lightning, and Overcharge. Everyone is to focus strictly on Emalon, and ignore his adds, until he uses overcharge.

For Lightning Nova ranged DPS and healers should be fine, but melee will need to move away from him during it, you want to try to get at least 15 yards away before he's finished casting it. A quick blue flash will spread out right when he's done casting it and the melee fighters can run right back to Emalon and fight him. For his Chain Lightning, if you have spread out far enough, only one person will get hit by it. If people are not spreading out, Chain Lightning will hit a lot of people and it will hurt them all.

Overcharge, however, is his most significant ability and everyone will need to be ready for it. When you see the text “Emalon the Stormwatcher Overcharges a Tempest Minion” every DPS, melee and range, should all be looking for whichever add just became a giant version of the rest. You want to click on the giant add and DPS him down as fast as you can, blow all your cooldowns on this add to make sure he dies quickly. You will have no more than fifteen seconds, likely even less, to burn this Overcharged Tempest Minion from full health to zero health. If you don't burn the overcharged add down in that time span, he will kill most of your raid instantly and the few who are left alive will all get killed soon after. After you have killed the overcharged minion, one will come into the fight and the tank who is handling the adds will need to make sure to pick him up (ha fast enough hunter can misdirect it to the adds tank). After the oversized add is killed, it will be about 45 seconds before Emalon overcharges another one. DPS should all return to fight Emalon until this happens, ranged players will need to keep in mind that they shouldn't be too close to any other players and melee need to remember to stay out of Chain Lightning during this time.

Do Not bother attacking the minions at the start to try to get them to less health because overcharge will fully heal them. Killing the adds off will also be useless as Emalon will bring them back. If you try to do either of those, even if you are successful by some miracle, you are just testing his enrage timer. Once you have killed Emalon his adds will disappear and the Master Looter will tell people when to roll on the loot.

Battle 2: Assassinating Archavon
Archavon is for the most part what we call a 'tank and spank.' You really only need one tank for the majority of this fight, but an off tank will still be necessary. Archavon will shoot spikes at a random target for a high amount of damage, you want to stay away from the person who is getting his by these, and the person getting hit by them should be standing still until it is finished. Every so often you will see him jump and hit a random player, leaving behind a cloud. If you happen to be inside this cloud just get outside of it, the main tank will be responsible for pulling Archavon out of the cloud. Archavon can only knock down everyone at one point for a second, while he does this he will grab the main tank so the off tank will need to keep Archavon busy until the main tank gets released. If your raid is half-decent you should have Archavon down long before he enrages.

So, to get priorities straight:
1.Kill Emalon first unless whoever started the raid clarified that it would be Archavon only
2.Melee move out of Lightning Nova (except emalon's tank); ranged stay spread out
3.When you see text saying that Archavon is starting to overcharge a minion, stop all dps on him and head towards the minions – kill the one that overcharges – then go back to Emalon
4.Repeat steps 2-3 until Emalon is dead and head over to Archavon
5.If you get hit by spikes stand still; if you are near the person being hit by them move
6.Get out of the cloud Archavon leaves behind when he jumps, tank him out of it
7.The off tank needs to be on Archavon right when the main tank gets grabbed
8.Beat the enrage timers

Start's been changed a bit, please keep headers in bold/gold.

Basic Information:
To be able to start this raid your faction should be in control of Wintergrasp. You do not want to start it (with a pick-up group) within half an hour before the battle for Wintergrasp begins since it may reset on you during the fight. Having at least one Shaman to Bloodlust (or Heroism) and having at least one hunter for misdirect can be a great help and a competent druid for battle-resurrection are always a great help, but if you have the choice of DPS always take whoever you think will be able to deal the most damage. The only class that I would consider a “must have” for this fight is a Paladin for Fire Resistance Aura.

There are three bosses in this raid you will have to kill, all of them have enrage timers if you do not finish them off quick enough. Koralon is now the first boss raids generally kill, followed by Emalon, and then Archavon. Once you understand this fight it becomes incredibly easy, if you are able to pull at least 2200 damage per second. I believe that Emalon has a six minute enrage timer while Archavon has one that comes at five minute (and Koralon has the equivalent of five minutes before your tanks will be taking too much damage from him). Most people will not want to do this raid with you if you do not intend to kill Koralon first, because they will not want to be saved as Koralon drops the best gear of the three.

Battle 1: Burning Koralon
Koralon is a rather easy boss on the condition that your DPS are high enough, your healers have common sense, your tanks don't die too easily, and everyone stays out of fire. For the fight I highly recommend bringing a Paladin to the raid for their Fire Resistance Aura and a Shaman for Bloodlust is always nice. If you have any fire resistance gear it will be helpful to use here.

Koralon has four special abilities; Burning Breath, Burning Fury, Meteor Breath, and Blazing Embers. Blazing Embers is by far the most frequent cause of raid wipes on Koralon, he drops fires on the ground that last a while and takes out 2000 fire damage per second from the health pool of anyone touching the flames. If you stand in these flames you are going to be wasting healers mana, stealing attention off the tank, and will probably die from it very soon anyway. It is better to not be standing in these fires than to be worried about how high your DPS is during the fight. Koralon has a Burning Breath ability which hits every raid member for three seconds inflicting heavy damage, there is no way to avoid this ability. Another ability Koralon can use is Meteor Fists which will split an 120% more fire damage effect on anyone standing 10 yards in front of him, this means that if there are two tanks and four melee DPS in front of Koralon each player will get 20% more fire damage. If melee DPS is standing behind Koralon they should be fine. Koralon's last ability is Burning Fury which increases all damage by about 5% every 20 seconds this fight lasts.

...

So, to get priorities straight:
1.Bring a Paladin for Fire Resistance & move out of fires immediately on Koralon
2.When Koralon uses Meteor Fists all melee besides tanks should be behind him
::Move to Emalon when Koralon is dead - unless told otherwise::
3.Kill Emalon first unless whoever started the raid clarified that it would be Archavon only
4.Melee move out of Lightning Nova (except emalon's tank); ranged stay spread out
5.When you see text saying that Archavon is starting to overcharge a minion, stop all dps on him and head towards the minions – kill the one that overcharges – then go back to Emalon
6.Repeat steps 2-3 until Emalon is dead
::Head over to Archavon when Emalon is dead - unless told otherwise::
7.If you get hit by spikes stand still; if you are near the person being hit by them move
8.Get out of the cloud Archavon leaves behind when he jumps, tank him out of it
9.The off tank needs to be on Archavon right when the main tank gets grabbed
10.Beat the enrage timers

can turn this last part into a [.list=1] if you like, i was just lazy.

If all else fails, call someone a troll.
