I'd definitely play... everyone always goes on about how good the 'old days' were so I wanna see what they are talking about.

I've been gathering information over the past few months for a utopia 'classic' - a remake of age 3 is what I've pretty much decided on. I've programmed a simple client and server that partially works, was wondering if anybody is actually interested in playing the thing? Personally I loved the old ages but maybe I'm the only one with nostalgia? ![]() |

I didn't realize that people had already asked swirve to run one of the old ages... interesting.
I emailed swirve yesterday and at this time they don't have plans to run a 'classic' game. I'm waiting to hear back from them about any objections to me running one. In the meanwhile, I have some screenshots. Not everything is finished, you will see where things still need to be filled in. I don't have magic or thievery working yet but in most other respects the game "works". It's still a bit clunky, though: http://www.gamingbattleleague.com/Ma...eenShot001.jpg http://www.gamingbattleleague.com/Ma...eenShot002.jpg http://www.gamingbattleleague.com/Ma...eenShot003.jpg http://www.gamingbattleleague.com/Ma...eenShot004.jpg http://www.gamingbattleleague.com/Ma...eenShot005.jpg http://www.gamingbattleleague.com/Ma...eenShot006.jpg Next step on the list is a closed alpha test, hopefully within a week or two. This will inform me of any holes in my code.. threading issues, logical errors, etc. If swirve is open to this idea, I hope to have a beta version running in 4 - 8 weeks depending on hosting and various other things. |

i would definatly play. When i joined back about 4 or 5 years ago, thing that mattered actually made the game better. like the utilitization. since Mehul took that out, the game lost alot of it's appeal. Utopia has gotten alot easier and as such the game has become less interesting. so yeah, i would love to play the "classic games" again.

Well the old versions were extremely simple, moreso than the current ones. To give you an idea of some of the differences, in age 3:
Really the game was a lot different back then, but imo it played very well, even with the bottom feeding and mult-attacking that sometimes went on. |
