"Parameter is incorrect"

THIS IS NOT A BUG. This post explains what it is, and how to deal with it.

Problem Description:

In some windows, especially the Military Calculator and the Buildings Calculator, an error message saying "Parameter is incorrect" might popup and cause Angel to act funny until it is closed. "Canvas does not allow drawing" is also a symptom of this problem.

Operating Systems Affected:

- Windows 95
- Windows 98
- Windows Millennium

Windows NT, 2000, XP and 2003 are NOT affected by this problem.

Problem Cause:

The above mentioned operating-systems suffer from poor memory management when dealing with spinedits. Spinedits are the buttons used in the Military and Buildings Calculators. Therefore, when opening a window rich in spinedits, your system might run out of memory.

How to check my free memory?

Windows comes with a utility called Resource Meter. You can perform a search on your hard-disk for a file called RSRCMTR.EXE, or install it from the original Windows CD.

How to prevent it?

The Buildings Calculator comes with a "Compact" option. It is highly recommended to use it whenever possible. For all other cases, monitor your free memory status as described above, and don't let it run out.

What to do when it happens?

Windows acts funny when it runs out of memory, and there is no way to anticipate what will happen. Therefore, the first thing to do is to close Angel. If Windows still seems unstable, reboot your computer. DO NOT KEEP WORKING WITH ANGEL AFTER THE MEMORY RUNS OUT!
