yes, you can if you're either an entrepeneur or you land a job with a company that invests in its employees eg training courses and certificates once you reach certain benchmarks.
I went to unit, but regret it a little. it was loads and loads of fun, but has little to do with the work I'm doing now. I've just convinced my company to sponsor me on another uni course though which is exactly the field I want to work in.

A trade has and pritty much will always be more important then a University degree. (I'm not saying you'll get paid more, but you get the idea)

Yes I believe I still can succeed in life without higher education, this is because I have determination to succeed.

Well I can say that I did it without schooling, however it was not an easy road and I am always, even at my age getting doors shut in front of me just because I have no university degree.

My experience gets me into many places but if I had both experience and a degree I would be even further than I am now.

succeeding in life

I started at sea in merchant navy at the age of 16 with no quals at all!!But after 10 years i wanted to branch out and came ashore.I used my savings to set up in auctioneering as Antiques is my passion and succeded due to perseverence.Since then I have owned a sign writing business,t shirt printing business and today run my own IT businees which i run part time whilst gaming online. I think anyone who is determined enough can succeed although you have to be focused and definately not a sensitive sort. 48 years old and semi-retired, not bad for someone who has given no chance when he left education.NB I have taken various courses since

Success in life differs for each of us. If by success you mean accomplishment, lots of people have accomplished a great deal without going to uni or college. It really depends on your tastes.

For me, I can't imagine not going. I'm no businessman and I loathe manual labour. I really don't have any choice .

This too will pass

I think it's been proven many times that you CAN succeed without any kind of degree . . . it's just not always (if ever) easy.

If by success you mean in the financial sense, then yes. If you're clever enough, an opportunist, and most importantly a people person, then I'm sure you could make some money without a degree.

But I'm sure having a relevant degree makes it much easier.

Yes, he's really well off, great example. I'd trade him any day

Anyhow, can you make it in life without going to uni? Surely, if you're talking finances. However, the years in university are an experience that I wouldn't want to miss for anything in the world.

Why on earth would anyone not wanna go to college/uni? You can party seven days a week and the government pays a third or more of your expenses =).

But anyway Acadian9, there's a posibility that you win the jackpot next year!!! Then you'll have enough money for all your life, but your not gonna wait for that either right? Education enhances your chances.
Maybe you can look into some statistics Acadian9! Just see how many people living around minimum wage have completed highschool or lower. And then see how many have a degree of whatever uni. Shall I make some estimates for ya?

Ugh, it's people like you who make Uni to expensive for people who actually want to go there for a study.

Many of the richest men (in Norway atleast) do not have any university degree at all. They made money by being innovative and smart on their own, university does not teach you to be great at something that others are not.

If you as a young dude manage to see the big relations in the stock markets and start dealing with stocks then you are more likely to succeed than having studied any degree for a long time?

Of course. With degree of university in my country, is just simple way stating that you've over educated most parts of the work life. I belive good education gives good changes succeeding life but you can succeed without education aswell.

Generalization is rhetorics of simpletons.

Yes you can, but it all depends on what your idea of successful is. My mom didn't go to college and she owns her own business.

I think not going to college only make your chances of becoming a loser greater.

Of course you can. There is, as you said, trades (although in Ontario these are usually done through a college and therefore you actually DO go to college). There's also the military, which has the option of continuing education, but you don't really need it. And let's face it, if you're in the military, everyone and their mothers (with the exception of the WBC) will respect you.And that's a good gage on how successful you are.

I'm assuming you mean successful in your career, and not necessarily in life, as there are many people who are dirt poor, flipping burgers at McDonald's for their entire life, but who you could call successful in regards to their other aspects of life (ie, their family, social life, etc).

So yes, you can be successful without the education.
